AFTERCARE FOR HAIR EXTENSIONS

BRUSHING

Use a loop brush or a soft-bristle brush designed for extensions.
Brush gently, starting from the ends and working up to the roots, holding the hair near the bonds or wefts to avoid tugging.
Brush at least twice a day to prevent tangling and matting, especially around the bonds or the wefts.

WASHING

Wash hair 2-3 times a week with sulfate-free and paraben-free shampoos.
Focus shampoo on the scalp and roots, being gentle around the extensions.
Use a hydrating conditioner only from mid-lengths to ends, avoiding the bond or weft attachment points.
Be sure to thoroughly rinse out all products to avoid buildup near the extensions.

DRYING

Pat the hair gently with a towel after washing—do not rub vigorously.
Air-dry your hair when possible. If using a blow dryer, keep it on a low-heat setting and avoid direct heat on the bonds (for K-Tip) or wefts.
Make sure the roots and bonds/wefts are completely dry to prevent moisture buildup that can weaken the adhesive or cause mildew.

STYLING

Always apply a heat protectant before using any hot tools (flat irons, curling irons, etc.). Avoid direct heat on K-Tip bonds, as it can melt or weaken the keratin adhesive. When using hot tools on wefts, avoid applying heat directly on the sewn area or tape.

SLEEPING

Sleep with hair in a loose braid or low ponytail to prevent tangling.
Use a silk or satin pillowcase to minimize friction, which can reduce tangles and preserve both natural and extension hair.

SWIMMING AND EXERCISING:

Before swimming, braid your hair or put it in a bun to minimize exposure to saltwater or chlorine, which can weaken the bonds or wefts.
After swimming, rinse your hair immediately to remove any chemicals or salt. Always follow up with a hydrating conditioner.

Wash your hair after working out to remove sweat, which can degrade the keratin bonds or the integrity of the weft.

REGULAR SALON MAINTENANCE

Book a check-up with your stylist every 4-6 weeks to ensure the extensions are in good condition. Avoid pulling or tugging on the extensions, and reach out in immediately if you feel any slippage or prolonged discomfort.

AVOIDING BOND DAMAGE

Do not use oil-based products, conditioners, or serums near the roots or the bonds, as they can cause the keratin bonds to slip.
Be cautious with heat styling tools, keeping heat away from the bonds to prevent melting or weakening of the adhesive.

HANDLING NEW HAIR GROWTH

As the hair grows, the bonds may move further from the scalp. Return to the salon for maintenance when bonds start feeling heavy or uncomfortable, usually after 3-4 months.

INITIAL SHEDDING

Right after the installation, some shedding from the wefts is normal. This can happen as a result of hair that was cut during the sewing or bonding process. However, well-made wefts should have minimal shedding beyond this initial period.

DAILY SHEDDING OF NATURAL HAIR

Since your natural hair is bound in the weft, the typical shedding of 50-100 strands per day can accumulate within the weft and may seem more noticeable when you wash or brush your hair. This is natural and expected because the shed hair remains trapped in the braid or sewn area rather than falling out as usual.

HOW MUCH SHEDDING IS TOO MUCH

If you notice large amounts of hair shedding from the weft itself (especially more than a few strands each time you brush or wash), reach out to your Artist.
If the weft begins to loosen or detach from the scalp this could be a sign the weft needs adjustment.

If your natural hair appears to be thinning or if you notice bald spots along the weft area, reach out to your Artist.

GENTLE HANDLING OF WEFTS

Be gentle when styling around the weft area, as pulling too hard can loosen the sewn or taped sections. Avoid using oils or heavy conditioners near the sewn area to prevent slippage or buildup.

TIGHTENING

Wefts may need tightening every 6-8 weeks, depending on hair growth and care. Visit your Artist regularly to adjust and maintain the position of the wefts to avoid damaging your natural hair.
